“Make this kinder”: cleaning up a talking-head video in one sentence
Pauses, ums and rough audio are the same job on every video. Here is what vide0 does when you ask it to make a clip kinder, and how to take it back.
03FIELD NOTES / VIDE0productMost talking-head footage needs the same three things before anyone should watch it: the long pauses closed, the ums and false starts removed, and the voice cleaned up. It is slow, repetitive work, which is exactly why it should not be your job.
In vide0, it is one sentence: “Make this kinder.”
What happens
- vide0 listens. The clip is transcribed on your computer, so it knows where every word and every silence is.
- It cuts the dead air. Pauses longer than a natural beat are closed, and filler words are struck from the transcript.
- It cleans the voice. Studio voice is applied to the finished clip. The preview is dry until the treated file is ready, and the app says so, because we would rather tell you than let the preview lie.
- It reports. You get a plain account of what changed, with an undo.
All of this is one step on your undo stack, however many edits it took.
What it does not do
It does not rewrite your story, and it does not cut what it cannot hear. A pause that is doing dramatic work is yours to keep: restore it from the transcript, or ask for pauses over a longer length only.
Why we built it this way
The words in the transcript, the cuts on the timeline and the sentence you typed all go through the same edits. That is why you can run “make this kinder”, strike one more word by hand, and undo the lot without anything coming apart.
This is the first of many edits vide0 will do for you. Request early access and tell us which one you want next.
